Sunday night dinner and Monday Breakfast

Last night we again had dinner at Neddies Harbour Inn and it was as good as the previous night had been. Drew started with the Roast Beet salad that I had had the previous day, he enjoyed it as much as I did. I decided to go fishy tonight, seeing as we are surrounded on three sides by sea, so I opted for the Seafood Chowder. I’m not always a chowder fan, it can be a bit creamy in flavour for my tastes, this one used crème fraiche and was not overpowering, rather it was all about the fish. It included local salmon, haddock and cod with smoked bacon lardons and was flavoured with mirepoix (which for the non-french and non-foodies among you is a mix of aromatics, normally celery, onion and carrots.
For the main causes Drew opted for the oven roasted supreme of chicken which was served over a green tea basmati rice in a spiced honey glaze. This was severed with spinach (or wilted greens as the menu would have it) carrots, red and yellow peppers, suede and roast parsnip – the chicken was moist and succulent, nothing was left on the plate at the end, which is recommendation enough. I, went for today’s market fish of the day, which was scallops – 8 delicate scallops served over a garlic creamy mash with the same range of vegetables (but not the spinach) these were served with a beurre blanc on the side. While it would be right to say the scallops tasted of scallops they did taste particularly fresh and flavoursome.
Drew went on the dessert where he had a twice baked dark chocolate soufflé served with home-mad marshmallows and a warm milk chocolate sauce and some cream. Seconds later it was gone – Drew loves chocolate, and in this format it was everything he had hoped for. We finished with an espresso eat and went back to the room to take in the view before going to bed.

We were up at 6.00 a.m. So I caught up with e-mails, checked my credit card account to see the current conversion rates from previous days payments (they are taking between 48 and 72 hours to appear), showered and dressed went out for a bit of fresh air and a final look at these spectacular views.
We went to breakfast at 7.30 - I seem to have forgotten to mention the breakfasts at Neddies Harbour Inn - they were unusual in a 'healthy eating' kind of way - not bacon, sausage or ham but frittata, granola, muesli, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, raisin pancakes, malt loaf, blueberry loaf. Now I'm a sausage and bacon kind of guy when on holiday so was a little disappointed by food that was either sweet or healthy. Still I managed to survive on the frittata which was made with red and yellow pepper chunks. There was a choice or orange, apple or cranberry juice and plenty of coffee. Drew liked the malt loaf as well as the frittata.

We paid, headed out to the car and left Neddies Harbour Inn, for our 300 mile journey today, at 8.30. We'll miss you Neddies Harbour, it's been great being here.
